What the Compact layout looks like

Name and title on the left, contact details stacked on the right, then tight single-column sections with a thin rule after each heading. Skills show as small grey chips.

The photo only appears if you upload one. In the builder, the Show these details? panel lets you show or hide the photo, date of birth, nationality, marital status and visa status — and that single setting applies to the preview, the PDF, the Word file and printing.

Who the Compact template suits

Best for: Students, freshers, interns and anyone who needs a clean one-page resume.

Think twice for: Senior profiles with many roles — the tight spacing is designed for one page.

Is Compact ATS-friendly?

Single column and ATS-friendly. Contact details are in the body, not in a page header.

Whatever design you choose, the builder's Application view shows the same content as a simple one-column page, and the Text PDF and .docx downloads keep selectable text in a clear reading order. No tool can guarantee how a particular employer's system reads a file, so follow the job advert's instructions. More in our ATS-friendly resume guide.

Tips for a stronger Compact resume

  • Lead with education if you have less than a year of work experience — reorder in Application view or keep Compact and write a strong summary.
  • Add projects and internships with numbers you can back up.
  • Keep the summary to two lines so everything fits on one page.

How to make a Compact resume in 5 steps

  1. Open Compact in the free builder — no account needed.
  2. Enter your details in the form, or import a JSON backup from another device.
  3. Click any text on the page to edit it in place; press Enter to finish or Esc to cancel.
  4. Check page flow with the page markers, then look at Application view for portals.
  5. Download a Text PDF, a Word .docx, a Design PDF or print.

Compact template FAQ

Is Compact good for a fresher resume?

Yes. It is built for one page and keeps education, projects and skills easy to scan.

Can Compact go to two pages?

It can, but if you need two pages Meridian or Signal give more breathing room.

Is the Compact template free?

Yes. Compact is free to edit and download as a PDF or Word (.docx) file, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Can I switch from Compact to another template without losing my content?

Yes. Your details are stored once and every template reads the same content, so switching designs never deletes anything. You can also undo a change.

Which file should I send to an online application portal?

Use the Text PDF or the Word (.docx) download. Both keep your content in a simple reading order with selectable text. Use the Design PDF when you email the resume directly to a person.
